Airbus cuts 15,000 jobs to face aviation's 'gravest crisis'

에어버스, 항공업계 '가장 심각한 위기' 속에 직원 1만5천명 감원

European aircraft maker Airbus said on Tuesday it is planning to cut around 15,000 jobs worldwide, 11 percent of its total workforce, in response to the "gravest crisis" the industry has ever seen caused by the coronavirus.

유럽의 항공기 제조업체인 에어버스는 코로나바이러스로 인해 항공업계에 닥친 ‘가장 심각한 위기'에 대응해 전체 인력의 11%인 약 1만5천명을 감원할 계획이라고 화요일 밝혔다.

The cuts are to be implemented by the summer of 2021, Airbus said in a statement, and follow a drop of nearly 40 percent of the commercial aviation business in recent months.

에어버스는 성명을 통해 이번 감원은 2021년 여름까지 시행될 예정이며 최근 몇 달간 상업용 항공 사업의 약 40%가 축소된 데 따른 것이라고 밝혔다.

"With air traffic not expected to recover to pre-COVID levels before 2023 and potentially as late as 2025, Airbus now needs to take additional measures to reflect the post COVID-19 industry outlook," it said in a statement.

회사는 성명에서 "항공 교통량은 2023년에서 늦으면 2025년 이전까지는 코로나19 이전 수준으로 회복되지 않을 것으로 예상됨에 따라, 에어버스는 이제 코로나19 이후의 업계 전망에 대응하기 위한 추가 조치를 취할 필요가 있다"고 설명했다.

The company said 5,000 positions would be cut in France, 5,100 in Germany, 900 in Spain, 1,700 positions in Britain and 1,300 positions at Airbus' other worldwide sites.
